Expertise in Cardiology
Her clinical and scientific work focuses on arterial hypertension, atrial fibrillation, stroke prevention, and cardiovascular disorders associated with endocrine diseases. In 2011, she earned a Candidate of Medical Sciences degree in Cardiology. Since 2022, she has held the distinction of Fellow of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging — FEACVI. Her experience includes participation in the international clinical trials ENGAGE AF–TIMI 48 and RE-SPECT ESUS.
Expertise in Lipidology
Her professional interests include elevated cholesterol, dyslipidaemias, atherosclerosis, and familial hypercholesterolaemia. She leads an EAS lipid clinic in Ukraine and serves as a national lead investigator for the EAS Familial Hypercholesterolaemia Studies Collaboration — FHSC. She is a co-author of the 2026 EAS consensus document on the organisation and funding of lipid clinics. Her work combines research into lipid metabolism with clinical cardiovascular risk assessment.
Clinical Practice and Professional Approach
Mariia Cherska’s professional career is closely linked to the Institute of Gerontology and the V. P. Komisarenko Institute of Endocrinology and Metabolism of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine. Working at the intersection of cardiology, endocrinology, and vascular ageing research has shaped her comprehensive approach to patient care, taking into account the relationships between cardiovascular disease, metabolic disorders, and risk factors.
Since 2017, she has headed the Consultative and Diagnostic Department at the V. P. Komisarenko Institute of Endocrinology and Metabolism. She works as a senior research fellow and was awarded the academic title of Senior Researcher in 2024. She also leads an EAS lipid clinic in Ukraine at LOCD Institute.
